It’s tax time, and every year we see the commercials, too–time to get your taxes done at your local pop-up tax prep place. Or is it? If you, like many of our clients, want to find the best possible tax solutions tailored to your needs, then we encourage you to have your taxes prepared by a Certified Public Accountant, or CPA.
Here are three reasons you should consider establishing a relationship with a CPA:
1) Things change in the tax world…all the time. So you need a professional who is up on tax law this year, and also how it may have changed from last year, and the year before, and the year before…are you seeing a pattern here? The last thing you want to have to do from year to year is figure out those changes. That’s what the experts are for.
2) You need a resource…and sometimes, an advocate. At Ten Key, Inc., we believe in being a resource for our clients, and our preferred CPA is no different. How would it feel to be able to call up an expert and ask them your tax questions during the year? And if something happens with your tax return, wouldn’t you like to be able to talk with the person who worked on it? Even if that happens after April 15th?
3) Your life may be as complicated as the tax code! Just like taxes, life is constantly in motion. Did you get married last year? Have a baby? Donate more than your usual amount to charity? Do you envision starting your own business or investing in real estate in the future? All these situations (and many more situations you could probably never predict) affect your taxes. A CPA will find the solution that fits your needs.
Now, if you are a single person with no kids renting an apartment and working for a company that sends you a W-2 every December, a pop-up tax preparation solution may work just fine. But remember, tax laws change all the time. Your own personal situation may change, too. Isn’t it worth it to have someone who takes the time to get to know you, so that they can help you respond to those changes come tax time?
